LiteGait® Body-Weight-Supported Gait Training

As part of our commitment to quality patient care, ACE Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation has incorporated LiteGait® into our rehabilitation treatment options.

LiteGait® is designed to facilitate training of posture, balance and walking while the patient remains physically supported.

The system uses an overhead support structure and a harness to provide partial body-weight support while patients practice standing, walking and other functional activities.

When used with a treadmill, LiteGait® can provide a continuous environment for gait practice.

The Unique Design of LiteGait®

LiteGait® provides physical support during standing, walking and balance activities, and can be used to:

Upright Posture

Support upright positioning and postural control.

Gait Mechanics

Allow leg extension during gait and give the physiotherapist an opportunity to observe walking patterns.

Therapist Access

Allow the physiotherapist to work on limb placement, weight transfer and step timing.

Treadmill Training

Support walking practice over a treadmill.

Over-Ground Walking

Allow progression from treadmill-based gait practice to over-ground walking.

Assistive Devices

Allow walking practice with an assistive device when clinically appropriate.

Multidirectional Movement

Support activities such as backward and sideways walking when appropriate.

Functional Activities

Support balance activities, ADLs and therapeutic exercise.

Over-Ground & Assistive Device Training

LiteGait® can be used for over-ground walking and mobility practice with an assistive device in a supported environment.

Gait Components Addressed with LiteGait®

Posture

Supporting upright positioning and postural control.

Coordination

Working on weight shifting, heel strike and gait symmetry.

Strength

Providing support while patients build strength during functional movement.

Balance

Providing physical support while patients practice balance and walking activities.

When Might LiteGait® Be Considered?

Following an individual physiotherapy assessment, supported gait training may be considered as part of rehabilitation for people experiencing mobility challenges associated with conditions such as:

  • Stroke / Cerebrovascular Accident
  • Spinal Cord Injury
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Acquired Brain Injury
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Motor Impairments
  • Muscle Weakness
  • Orthopedic Conditions, including TKA, THA and post-fracture rehabilitation
  • Post-Amputation / Prosthetic Training

Whether LiteGait® is appropriate, how it is used, and the amount of support provided depend on the individual’s physiotherapy assessment, abilities and rehabilitation goals.

More Options for Functional Rehabilitation

LiteGait® gives the physiotherapist additional options for working on seated and standing posture, balance, mobility and gait.

Its FreeDome configuration can allow supported rotation and activities such as sideways or backward walking, over-ground walking with an assistive device, balance activities, activities of daily living and therapeutic exercise when clinically appropriate.

LSVT BIG® logo

LSVT BIG® Movement Treatment

Treatment for People with Parkinson’s Disease

LSVT BIG® is an evidence-based treatment approach designed to help people with Parkinson’s disease work on movement amplitude — or the “bigness” of movement.

Treatment uses structured, repetitive and progressively challenging movements and applies these strategies to everyday activities.

Bigger Movements

Practicing increased movement amplitude.

Everyday Activities

Applying movement strategies to functional activities that are important to you.

Walking & Mobility

Working on movement patterns involved in walking and mobility.

Individual Goals

Exercises and functional activities are adapted to the individual’s abilities and goals.

LSVT BIG® treatment at ACE is provided by an LSVT BIG® Certified Clinician.

Treatment is provided one-on-one following an assessment to determine whether the program is appropriate for the patient’s individual needs.

Two Approaches. One Personalized Plan.

LiteGait® and LSVT BIG® may be incorporated into physiotherapy treatment when clinically appropriate, based on the individual’s assessment, abilities and rehabilitation goals.

LiteGait®

Body-weight-supported equipment that may be incorporated into physiotherapy for standing, walking, balance and functional mobility practice.

LSVT BIG®

A structured treatment program delivered by an LSVT BIG® Certified Clinician, particularly associated with movement challenges related to Parkinson’s disease.

These are not one-size-fits-all treatments. Your physiotherapy assessment helps determine which treatment approaches are appropriate for your individual needs and goals.
